Malcolm Durfee-a Photographer, a Designer, a Journalist
The pictures below were for Dan’s Morrison’s 365 photojournalism . The assignment was to around and take striking picrues at night. This was my favorite project becuase I think these photos look aesthetically cool.
Model drew what Malcolm Durfee considers a “cool spiral thingy” with a sparkle by constantly moving the sparkler in a circle while walking back and forth. This was shot in Mr.Morrison’s backyard.
Picture taken outside of random house across from Agate Alley Bistro on E 20th Ave. As Malcolm Durfee, also known as myself, would say, “the moon looks cool with the way the house is framing it”.
A picture of Agate Alley Bistro just as they close on the night of May 24th.Taken By Malcolm Durfee
Taken on bridge above I-5 in Eugene by Malcolm Durfee on May 24. Dan Morrison stood in a white shirt to protect me from being hit by any oncoming cars.
This model was attempting to write I “heart” Dan with a sparkler. Then there's a “fiber optic” whip being waved around behind the model with the sparkler. This was shot in Mr.Morrison’s backyard.

These picture below was for an assignment in Dan Morrison’s photojournlism class where I had to find the way to capture the feel and history of a place with just 5 photos and captions. I loved this assignment becuase it tested me at something I want to do in the long run which is try to tell stoiries anbout places or people .
A view of downtown
Springfield Oregon taken from Kelly Butte Park Overlook on Saturday afternoon.
The Springfield Municipal Jail is the largest building in this area, shown at
the very left of the picture. The downtown area of Springfield is mostly covered
by trees. However, in front of George and Violet’s steakhouse, the gray
building to the right with a mural on its right side, begins the part of Main
Street that is full of shops and restaurants.
A lady gets ready to cross Main Street as a couple cars pass by her Saturday night. Deb Mcmillen a resident of Eugene since 1973, says that this area has become a “spot” for people to get food and drinks,or shop. There are plenty of places to stop at including Uncivil Boutique, Little Axe Records,or the Plank Town Brewing Company. During the night there the streets are full of patrons to these places.
Springfield was the original town that the
Simpsons the cartoon was based on as the Creator Matt Groening grew up in
Portland and knew of the city. This is the imprint of the voice actor for Lisa
Simpson, Yeardly Smith, taken Sunday night. This imprint is in front of a large
Simpsons mural on Main Street.Springfield celebrates that it is the one true
town that the cartoon bases its town of Springfield offThis is a picture of an old gun store sign that was on Main Street. Stores like this have been phased out of Downtown for ones that will attract a progressive crowd according to Deb Mcmillen. This faint sign that is covered by another faint sign of an old ministry, remains as a reminder of what downtown Springfield used to offer.
This mural is the Patriot by Mike Rickard in 2014. This mural shows the more “patriotic” morals that the old
Springfield
had according to Deb Mcmillen
who describes how the town consisted of conservative truckers and
trade workers, however it has become more trendy.
This was another project for Morrison’s class it consisted of us trying to depict a story through 5 poictures and captions that really explains a person’s personality. This was my last assignment of the class and I think it showed alot what I learned from the class.
Raime Dayton, a 20 year-old freshman at the University of Oregon who is from Petaluma, California, rides his skateboard at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, this late Sunday afternoon. He chose to skate in front of the University of Oregon’s softball stadium Dayton carries his board. He preferred to practice this hobby on random sidewalks rather than skate parks because “skatepark culture is kind of shitty.” Dayton has been skateboarding since he was six years old. He said, “Extreme sports like snowboarding, surfing, and skating clear his mind because he has to be focused on not getting hurt.”Dayton sits on his skateboard as “Street Talkin’” by Slick Rick and Outkast plays from the iPhone speakers he holds in his hands. He said, “Skating itself is a hobby, but the culture it comes with is something I associate with. The music I listen to and the clothes I wear were both made popular by skate culture.”Dayton attempts an ollie, a common skateboard trick. Dayton claims to be busy studying music, so he has not had the time to practice as much. It was not until he finished all his finals that he found it appropriate to skate. He said, “I go here to be a student, not a skater.” Raime went on to land the ollie.Dayton carries his board. This board was part of Dane Brady’s personal skateboard line. Dayton bought skateboards endorsed by Brady because Brady is a Portland native, and Dayton's college education in Oregon made him want to support other skaters in Oregon. Dayton said, “Your board does not matter, as long as you love it.” Raime Dayton attempts to land a tray flip, a skateboard trick that is a mix of a Kickflip and a pop shove it. Dayton said, “The tray flip is my hardest and most favorite trick I can land.” Dayton didn’t end up landing the tray flip that he was attempting. Dayton was not able to land a tray flip all day, and he blamed it on him not having as much time to skate anymore.,
